This is an important goal for me to have because with out a safe environment there is a greater possibility of accidents causing injuries. To meet my goal, I look over the classroom to make sure that the floor is clear of any debris such as sand, toys and/or art materials. I make sure that all toys and games are in working order, discarding anything that is broke or cracked. I look outside as well for any broken toys; look to see that the tricycles are working properly and that there are no sharp or rusted objects that could harm a child. I also have arranged our classroom in a way that there is not a lot of excess room to run freely in, there are no blind spots for children to be unseen, and our centers are clearly marked stating how many friends can play at one time to ensure that the children have ample space to play and reduces the chance of their play being disrupted due to amount of children in an area. It was important that the children were made a part of creating the rules so they would be more likely to understand them and follow them. We go over our rules at least once daily during morning circle time and repeat them throughout the day with positive reinforcement to remind the children to continue to make good choices to keep themselves safe.
